How to Install an App Safely

Use the official app store or software publisher’s own website, and pause when an installer asks for permissions you do not understand.

A simple explanation

Lookalike ads and download pages can imitate trusted software. Check the publisher name and the app’s purpose before installing.

Step-by-step checks

  1. Search for the app inside the official store on your phone, or navigate to the publisher’s known website yourself.
  2. Check the developer or publisher name, app description and requested permissions.
  3. Review the permission prompt and decline access that does not make sense for the app’s purpose.
  4. On a computer, follow the publisher’s normal installer and read each screen before continuing.

Troubleshooting notes

Do not install software advertised by a pop-up claiming your device is infected.
