Why Is My Printer Showing as Offline?

An offline message often means the computer and printer are not communicating. Check power, connection and the selected printer before reinstalling software.

A simple explanation

The printer may be asleep, connected to a different Wi-Fi network, paused in the print queue or unavailable to the computer.

Step-by-step checks

  1. Check that the printer is powered on and has no paper, ink or screen warning that needs attention.
  2. For Wi-Fi printers, check that printer and computer use the same home network.
  3. Open the print queue and look for a paused printer or a stuck job; cancel only jobs you no longer need.
  4. Restart the printer and computer, then try printing a simple test page.

Troubleshooting notes

If the printer display shows an error, write down the message and check the model’s official support guide.
